The proposed flexible-housing bylaws will proceed to a public hearing after the Mayne Island Local Trust Committee gave first readings to the amendments on March 28, 2022.[1]

The proposed changes include defining tiny homes on wheels as recreational vehicles rather than dwellings, increasing the permitted size of secondary suites, removing the lower cottage-size limit on smaller lots, identifying the number of dwellings and maximum combined floor area, and requiring water catchment for additional dwellings.[1]

The committee asked staff to schedule a public hearing for Bylaws 184 and 189, after passing first readings for both bylaws.[1]

During the community information meeting, participants raised questions about allowing only one secondary suite, density transfers, water districts and possible covenants or housing agreements.[1]

The committee also asked staff to add consultation with water districts about expanding areas where secondary suites are available to its projects list.[1]
