The Mayne Island Local Trust Committee directed staff to continue processing application MA-RZ-2023.1 and asked the applicant to prepare design, density and potential amenity options addressing community and committee concerns. Both motions carried at the committee’s January 29 meeting.[1]
The application proposes replacing a guest house with 20 detached units. The minutes record concerns raised during discussion about the development’s size, water needs, effects on neighbours, parking and the need for more complete plans.[1]
The applicants said they were considering water catchment as the most practical way to address water concerns and asked for clear direction from the committee. They also said the units would be placed where existing structures were, with no trees removed.[1]
The minutes say nine emails had been received expressing concerns or opposition to the application. The applicants had held a community information meeting on November 27, 2023.[1]
