The Mayne Island Local Trust Committee gave three readings on June 24 to Bylaw 193, as amended, and forwarded it to the Islands Trust Executive Committee for approval. The amendments include changing the permitted form of housing on the site; the committee said the existing zoning, housing agreement and covenant remain in place.[1]
Neighbours speaking at the meeting raised concerns about water supply, traffic, density and the absence of a public hearing, and asked trustees to defer further readings. The minutes record that trustees said the zoning was not changing, the density was not changing, and a different proposal would require changes to the housing agreement and covenant.[1]
Trustee Tobi Elliott said the existing housing agreement and covenant would continue to apply, and that changing them would require a public hearing. The minutes also record Elliott saying there was still work to be done before anyone builds on the site.[1]
The committee amended a separate provision in the bylaw, increasing the required height of landscape screening from 1.5 metres to 2.0 metres, then passed the three readings and referral motions.[1]
