The Mayne Island Local Trust Committee approved Temporary Use Permit PLTUP-2026-0124 for six months, ending December 31, 2026. The motion to approve the permit carried after a motion not to approve it was defeated. [1]

Planner Bruce Belcher said additional correspondence included seven statements opposing the application and one supporting it. He also said water-use records received from the applicant showed use was not outside the level determined by the water district. [1]

The applicant said the property had been rented for 62 days in the previous calendar year and that an on-island contact resides full time. The applicant also said the permit does not allow guests to use outdoor fire and that no formal complaints had been received except for a barking-dog incident resolved within 20 minutes. [1]

During discussion, trustees noted the property’s proximity to others and said the applicant had tried to address concerns. The minutes also record comments that cumulative impacts needed to be considered. [1]

The committee’s public participation period included comments about water use, laundry, fires during fire-ban season, noise, parking, traffic, garbage and other effects. The committee replied that members of the public can make a bylaw complaint and that all complaints are investigated. [1]
