The Mayne Island Local Trust Committee gave second reading to amendments to the land-use and official community plan bylaws for Cotton Park, then asked staff to schedule a public hearing on both. [1]
The land-use bylaw amendment concerns the permitted size of structures at the site; the minutes record that staff recommended increasing the current 200-square-foot limit. [1]
Debra Bell, a commissioner with Mayne Island Parks and Recreation, said signs, art installations or interpretive panels might be treated as structures under the current bylaw and affect support from First Nations. She also said there should be no square-footage restriction and that community and First Nations consultation should be sought. [1]
The committee passed motions to amend Bylaw 178 and give it second reading as amended, and to give Draft Bylaw 177 second reading. It then requested a public hearing for both bylaws. [1]
The minutes also record that the committee confirmed a formal referral to First Nations and that a community information meeting and public meeting could be held together. [1]
