Executive Committee approves three local trust committee bylaws

The approvals cover Galiano, Hornby and South Pender, with the Hornby decisions recorded separately for its official community plan and land use bylaws.

The Denman Firestarter · Governance · 2026-09-23 · updated 2026-10-17 · Trust-wide: every island edition carries this report.

The Islands Trust Executive Committee approved three local trust committee bylaws at its September 23 meeting: one for Galiano Island, two for Hornby Island and one for South Pender Island.[1]

The Galiano bylaw amends the island’s land use bylaw; the minutes say it addressed residents’ urgent concerns about power access and use.[1]

For Hornby, the committee approved an amendment to the official community plan and an amendment to the land use bylaw.[1]

The South Pender approval was for a public notification bylaw. The minutes say the local trust committee had initially selected direct email or mail-out notification, and staff were asked to amend the options or provide greater clarity in future requests.[1]

The committee also discussed the September Islands Trust Council meeting, including mixed feedback on prompts to turn on cameras during votes and concerns about Wi-Fi reliability and hearing staff in the Victoria office boardroom.[1]
